Genetic research has been an integral part of medical advancements for decades now. This same type of research, slightly varied of course, can find answers to some of the most important questions of all time, such as how to cure lethal diseases that affect millions of people worldwide. Medical genetic research is used for many different reasons though, and some of them are becoming quite controversial. Being able to determine how tall your child is or what color eyes they will have when they are born is just one example of what genetic research is going to allow civilization to do.

There are many different ethical questions presented by genetic research and developments though, such as who will be able to have access to the advanced treatments that are beginning to emerge. Gene therapy is one of them, and it promises to hold the key to a number of conditions that can be treated or even cured with this approach. Although it has yet to be fully developed into a viable treatment for everyone, the question of who will have access to it in the future still remains. Genetic research takes a long time and many different factors are at play, making it an extremely complicated issue, yet one which could provide treatments and cures for many diseases that affect people around the world.
